The PID Algorithm There is no single PID algorithm. Different fields using feedback control have probably used different algorithms ever since math was introduced to feedback control. Just as the human body uses feedback mechanisms and control loops, so do electronic and mechanical devices. A software algorithm called PID is often used to control these systems. PID is an acronym that stands for Proportional, Integral, and Derivative.
